Family Owned and Operated Orchard and Cidery

Big Mountain Ciderworks

Kalispell, Montana

“We planted our first orchard in 2006. We wanted to grow unique varieties that were unavailable locally and have been providing fresh fruit for our friends since then. We ended up with a lot of apples and decided that converting our extra apples to hard cider was the most efficient and sustainable way to use our fruit. We experimented with different varieties to see what would grow best and in 2012, and every year thereafter, planted a much larger orchard to grow the best apples to make cider. Most of our family has farmed since the turn of the (other) last century. We still honor hard work and respect for the land as did our parents and grandparents. If you appreciate fresh fruit, juice or hard cider, stop by and share the fruits of our labor.”

Big Mountain Ciderworks joined the Punch Design Co. list in 2018, wanting to relaunch their cider lineup after a long hiatus. The creative direction revolves around the Desmul family’s industrial roots, intimate relationships with both land and machinery, and respect for the centuries-old engineering that goes into making a delicious pint of American cider.

We are a hard cider manufacturing company and wanted to develop a cogent brand and packaging - even before we had a product. We were lucky to be introduced to Joshua Berman while he was working with The Brandit. He helped us get off the ground with our branding and marketing strategy. Josh spent quite a bit of time reviewing our strategy and goals before designing our logo and our packaging. He and his team were able to capture the essence of who we were and wanted to be.

He worked with us to first identify our goals, and this manifested itself not only in a great logo and packaging that set us apart from the crowd, but also by helping us define our strategy going forward. We really appreciate his style and artistic abilities.

We’re looking forward to continuing our relationship into the future. We would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs brand strategy, identity design, or assistance rolling out their brand in the marketplace.

Brand Audit + Revision

While at The Brandit, Joshua Berman worked on some packaging design for Big Mountain Ciderworks. This was a brief project, and he updated the brand, cleaning up some components and adding new ones when BMC became a Punch Design Co. client.

Sometimes a core brand concept is strong, carrying a degree of existing marketplace awareness. In that case, it is often prudent to polish the assets we have, bring the whole brand up to date and add components to strengthen the overall presentation. This can happen alongside a repositioning, or a change in price point, or the introduction of new products.

To discern the best course of action, Punch regularly performs a brand audit with our new partners.

Let’s work together to find the best solution for your brand.
