I was introduced to Joshua Berman by some friends in the beer business who had enjoyed working with him on a variety of branding projects. We decided to work together on discovery for a new agave-based product, intended to be a disruptor in the tequila-adjacent space.

He came to the process with intrigue, curiosity, and an original content-based mindset, which resulted in a fully developed concept... a constant challenge for independent brands competing in a crowded marketplace, dominated by large corporate players.

PROCESS PREVIEW

Originally tasked with a single series (two launching agave products called “Troublemaker” and “Vigilante”), Punch developed an array of initial concepts with one vision. These sketches are from two back-to-back meetings, held a week or so after establishing our brand strategy for Art of Agave. During this process Punch identified a clear split in the product lineup, and suggested a ‘sister’ series for agave spirits of a certain tier.

We developed the name for this sister series: “Tequiliana.” As this was a novel product at the time, we wanted to separate it from other popular agave spirits, but convey its botanical connection to familiar brands. It’s not mezcal. It’s not tequila. It’s Tequiliana.
